Glorious women, music and guns

EMILIA PÉREZ Trailer: Glorious women, music and weapons

With the official trailer for Emilia Perez dropped today, I’m still not entirely sure what the movie is about, or how all these women fit together. I know what French author Jacques Audiard is capable of, with films as diverse as The beat that my heart skipped, Rust and bone, A ProphetAnd The sisters brothers under his belt. I know the amazing cast of women – Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña and Selena Gomez – won a rare acting award at the Cannes Film Festival. I know it’s a musical and there are drug cartels and a trans woman finally realizing her transition and lots of fantastic hair and costumes and serious violence. It’s definitely an unusual combination of factors, and that’s what we’re here for.

Rita, an underrated lawyer who works for a major law firm and is more interested in getting criminals out of jail than bringing them to justice, is hired by the leader of a criminal organization.

Honestly, that’s all I want to know. The film will have a limited theatrical release in November and will hit Netflix in Canada, the US and the UK on November 13. Watch the trailer and photos below.
