School employee charged after hidden camera found in girls’ locker room

A Neosho man was charged after a hidden camera was discovered in the girls’ locker room at McDonald County High School.

Rodger Copeland, 53, of Neosho, was arrested and charged with sexual exploitation of a minor, possession of child pornography and invasion of privacy involving a victim under 18 years of age.

In a Facebook post, the McDonald County Sheriff’s Office said it was contacted by high school officials Friday after students found a hidden camera in the girls’ locker room.

The sheriff’s office sent detectives to assist school personnel in the investigation. After obtaining a warrant, the sheriff’s office said it was able to identify the person who allegedly placed the camera in the locker room.

Copeland, who was employed by the district in a non-teaching role, was booked into the McDonald County Jail. No deposit has been provided.

McDonald County Sheriff Rob Evenson wrote in the Facebook post that the investigation will continue and the hidden camera will be sent to a computer lab for analysis.

Court documents charging Copeland said he allegedly admitted to placing the camera in the locker room and said he wanted to experiment and look at the girls’ bodies because he liked them.

He allegedly told a deputy that he had put the camera in the locker room because he was lonely.

The News-Leader contacted the McDonald County Superintendent to ask how long Copeland had been employed by the county.

Copeland will appear before Judge John Lepage on Wednesday at 10 a.m. He does not yet have an attorney listed in online records.
