Emilia Perez | Trailer lands for Oscar candidate with a coveted tip

Emilia Perez is coming to Netflix in the UK, and here’s the trailer for the film, which is expected to do quite a bit of business at the Oscars.

2024 will be a good year for Selena Gomez. She is currently starring in one of Hulu/Disney+’s most popular shows Only murders in the buildingwhich was recently renewed for a fifth series.

As if that weren’t enough, she produces and guest stars in the pilot episode of Wizards Beyond Waverly Placethe sequel to the show that made her a star, which can be seen on Disney+ from October 29.

And now there is also a movie.

When it premiered in Cannes, Emilia Perez received a standing ovation and later won the Grand Jury Prize and the Best Actress award, which was shared between the three leads. Finally we’re close to a UK release too.

The synopsis reads:

Overqualified and overexploited, Rita (Zoe Saldana) uses her talents as a lawyer for a large firm in Mexico that is more interested in criminal money laundering than serving justice. But an unexpected way out opens up for her: helping cartel boss Manitas retire and carry out the plan he has been secretly preparing for years: finally becoming the woman he has always dreamed of.

Karla Sofía Gascón, Saldana and Gomez star in the film. The cast also includes Adriana Paz, Edgar Ramírez and Mark Ivanir.

The film is written and directed by Jacques Audiard, who previously made the great film Rust And Bone. It’s a rare film that can combine the mafia movie with a musical, but the film is getting rave reviews and it will be interesting to see what a wider audience will think.

Emilia Perez is only being released theatrically in the US, those of us in Britain will have to make do with watching it on Netflix, where it will be streaming from November 13.
