ex-cop, bjp mp's 'game of thrones' style monologue is a hit on the internet: 'kanoon wala mafia'

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Brij Lal, a former top police officer of Uttar Pradesh, was recently spotted sitting on a replica of the iconic ‘Iron Throne’ from the prominent series Game of Thrones. In a video, the Rajya Sabha member reflected on his career, likening himself to a ‘don’ who maintained law and order. Brij Lal, who served as Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police from 2011 to 2012, clarified his use of the term “don”. He explained: “I am not a mafia don, I am a former police officer. I was another mafia – that of the law, which cleansed society of criminals, mafias and terrorists.” The throne, he revealed, had been made for a movie by a film producer. “I’m sitting on a chair that was used in a movie. There are swords here… It looks like some mafia is sitting on it,” he added.

In the video, the 1977-batch IPS officer shared memories of his long career, which included leading the Special Task Force (STF) and the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS). He also mentioned his passion for collecting swords and recalled his days at the police academy.

Brij Lal, who later headed the Uttar Pradesh Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Commission before entering politics, described his career in law enforcement as spanning more than 37 years. “I am not a Don, but a Don who worked within the boundaries of the law and fought against crime,” he repeated.

The video has since gained widespread attention online, drawing attention to its unique comparison between his career in law enforcement and the fictional world of Game of Thrones.
