CM Pinarayi vehemently denies the ‘Malappuram reference’ and lashes out at the gold smuggling mafia

Kozhikode: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has been seriously rocked by the controversy over the reference to Malappuram district in connection with gold smuggling and Hawala money and has launched a counter-attack in a bid to save his pride, angrily wondering why someone gets disturbed when fingers are pointed at gold smugglers.

While inaugurating the AKG Auditorium, built by the CPM district committee, the Chief Minister stated that “The Hindu” made a mistake by publishing things he had not said during the interview. “This has been conveyed to the concerned people at ‘The Hindu’ and I have come to know that they too have clarified that the ‘controversial part’ of the interview was provided to them by a PR agency and have apologized for their mistake . ”, said CM.

“Speaking out against gold smuggling through Karipur airport is not against a district. It is not against Malappuram district. But some people want to paint it that way. Why do people get disturbed when allegations are made against gold smuggling?” Pinarayi asked. “There are some common forces behind these allegations. Minority and majority communism are highly complementary and function together. Both will be vigorously opposed. The government is against communalism, not against minorities,” he said.

“Kozhikode airport is located in Malappuram district. Since 2020, 147.79 kg of gold has been seized in the state. Of this, 124 kg of gold has been seized in connection with Karipur airport. Obviously, this would be considered a crime committed in Malappuram district. When I say this, please do not portray this as an accusation against Malappuram district,” CM said.

“Don’t think you can say whatever you want just because there are community forces behind it. CPM is not a party that takes action just by hearing someone shout nonsense on the road. CPM has its own organizational structure and functions within this framework. No one should think that they can lead the party astray,” Pinarayi said.
