Woman gets $7.1 million after misread CT scan causes blindness

A jury in Erie County, PA, has awarded a woman $7.1 million after a misread CT scan left her legally blind, according to a September 30 article published by Erie News Now.

The ruling stems from an incident in November 2020 when Allison Mitchell underwent a CT exam performed by Anil Kumar Bhardwaj, MD, of Foundation Radiology in Pittsburgh. The article states that Bhardwaj failed to identify the brain clots visible on the exam.

The jury awarded Mitchell $2.35 million for future medical expenses, $1.28 million for lost income and $3.5 million for reported pain and suffering.
