Finding home follows three young girls as they move from a heartbreaking past as hostages in the Cambodian sex trade to a hopeful future – all with the help of an organization dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating victims of human trafficking.

Filmmaker Derek Hammeke’s award-winning documentary brings to life the struggles and challenges these young survivors face as they rebuild their lives after such devastating trauma. Produced over three years, the film follows their journey from victims to survivors. The documentary highlights the crucial role of activists, some of whom live thousands of miles away, as the girls begin a new chapter in their lives and find acceptance, community and a place to call their own. Finding home is the first feature documentary by director Derek Hammeke. Through his Joplin, Missouri-based production company Flying Treasure, LLC, Hammeke has created numerous commercials, documentaries and award-winning short films. He spearheaded the creative project Bahta short film in collaboration with Rapha International, an organization committed to ending the trafficking and sexual exploitation of children and providing aftercare to survivors. Derek’s involvement in production for Rapha International inspired his own commitment to combating human trafficking, which ultimately led him to it Finding home.
