Going out with: Begüm | A Roaring Twenties experience at The Stockroom

There is so much to do in Groningen that you really need a guide to discover the city’s hidden gems. UKrant‘s student editors share their cultural agenda with you. What is their favorite location and which events should you definitely not miss?

Meeting place: the warehouse

If you are looking for a relaxed and unique atmosphere and want to enjoy some unique cocktails on a Saturday evening after a tiring week, The Stockroom is the perfect place. For those who can find the disguised entrance, a real gem awaits inside.

The place takes its inspiration from the Prohibition era of the 1920s, a time when the US government tried and failed to ban alcohol. Speakeasies appeared everywhere, hidden behind bookcases and secret doors, and known only to those in the know. Walking into The Stockroom is like stepping into one of those secret bars from the past.

With its dim lighting and vintage accents, it’s easy to imagine you’ve traveled back in time

You don’t need a password to enter, but the dim lighting and vintage accents make it easy to imagine you’ve traveled back in time, seeing people from a hundred years ago lounging at the bar, sipping classic cocktails or having hushed conversations.

Whether you sit at the bar and watch the bartenders work their magic or sit at a cozy table, it’s all about the experience. The bartenders here are true artists, creating unique cocktails that you won’t find anywhere else. Enjoy the chill music with the cocktails freshly prepared for you and forget the world for a few hours!

This place is ideal for special occasions, so don’t forget to reserve a table. And if you’re still up for it, the nearby bars and clubs make it easy to continue the night.
