Baltimore man gets 23 years in prison for child sexual exploitation

On Monday, William Zev Steen, 46, of Baltimore, was sentenced to 23 years in prison, followed by lifetime supervised release, for sexual exploitation of a child, according to a Department of Justice news release.

According to his guilty plea, Steen sexually abused the minor victim from 2005 to 2011 from the time she was 2 years old until she was 8 years old.

Steen registered two cases of sexual abuse in 2008, when the minor victim was five years old, the press release said. Steen also admitted that in 2022 he collected and shared files depicting the sexual abuse of prepubescent minors through a peer-to-peer file-sharing network.

The files documenting Steen’s abuse of the child victim were located on his digital devices after his arrest in November 2022. The sentence was announced by Erek L. Barron, the United States Attorney for the District of Maryland; Special Agent in Charge Michael S. McCarthy of Homeland Security Investigations; and Commissioner Richard Worley of the Baltimore Police Department.
