Borussia Dortmund supporters criticize the “UEFA mafia” over changes to the Champions League format

Borussia Dortmund fans expressed their dismay over Champions League reforms in a major tifo criticizing UEFA, European football’s governing body.

Before Tuesday’s match against Scottish club Celtic, supporters displayed the phrase “UEFA mafia” behind one of the goals, accompanied by a banner reading: “You don’t care about the sport – all you care about is money !”

Another banner contained a website link, indicating that their messages focused on the changes to the Champions League.

This season, UEFA has changed the format of Europe’s top tournament by adding four extra teams. The traditional group stage has been replaced by a league system, with each of the 36 teams now playing eight different opponents in the early stages of the competition.

In addition, Celtic fans displayed Palestinian and Lebanese flags before Tuesday’s match.
