We wish you jail time, not death – Basintale answers Gabby about Nana Bediatuo Asante’s health

An altercation broke out between Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a leading figure in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), and Malik Basintale, the deputy communications officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), over the health of Nana Bediatuo Asante, the executive power. Secretary to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko took to social media early on October 2, 2024, criticizing the tone of the discussions surrounding Nana Bediatuo’s recent hospitalization.

Responding to stories circulating on social media, Otchere-Darko accused some individuals of harboring hatred and even wishing harm on the executive secretary of the president.

“The hatred is deep and frightening. Wishing a fellow human being dead and being disappointed that he is still alive is devilishly humiliating,” Otchere-Darko wrote in his post.

He further invoked the wisdom of Aristotle and said, “Anger can be cured by time, but hatred cannot.”

His comments came after reports surfaced that Nana Bediatuo Asante, who had recently attended the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York, had fallen ill and been hospitalized in the United States.

As rumors spread about his condition, Otchere-Darko’s post condemned the negative sentiments expressed in some quarters.

In a sharp reaction, Malik Basintale took to social media to refute Otchere-Darko’s allegations, directing his frustrations at what he described as President Nana Akufo-Addo’s ‘mafia’ family.

He claimed that the opposition did not wish death on the president’s allies, but instead called for justice and accountability.

“Sir, I hope you now get an idea of how Ghanaians feel about your ‘mafia’ family. I mean the Dankwa, Kuntunkununkun and Ofori Panyin families. Well, we don’t all wish you dead. the stolen money came back!” Basintale wrote in a message.

Meanwhile, amid the online clash, the Office of the President has issued an official statement on the health status of Nana Bediatuo Asante.

The statement, signed by Eugene Arhin, director of communications at the presidency, confirmed that Nana Bediatuo had been hospitalized after feeling unwell following the UN General Assembly.

However, he assured the public that Bediatuo was in a stable condition and responding positively to treatments.
