Doyon, who previously pleaded guilty on October 24, 2023, was also ordered to pay $103,500 in restitution.

“This crime is among the worst I have ever seen,” Judge Torresen said at Doyon’s sentencing.

Torresen thanked the law enforcement and federal investigators who worked on the case and stated that if Doyon had not been caught and arrested on state charges, “I don’t know where this would have gone.”

“And based on the images described from the child abuse material in your possession, I don’t think it went well,” Torresen added.

According to court records, in March 2023, the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit received three tips from the nonprofit National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about a phone number that had been used to steal more than 400 files containing suspected child sexual abuse material. upload to a cloud-based storage platform.

Investigators discovered that the phone number belonged to Timothy Doyon, a 25-year-old sex offender registrant in Maine due to a previous state conviction for possessing sexually explicit material of a minor under the age of 12, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

A search of Doyon’s person, vehicle and residence in May 2023 resulted in the seizure of multiple electronic devices, including cell phones and digital storage devices.

At least one image found on the devices shows Doyon engaging in sexually explicit conduct with a child under the age of 12, federal prosecutors said.

Doyon also admitted to investigators that he downloaded, viewed and saved child sexual abuse material.

The case was investigated by the federal Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit and the Lewiston Police Department.

“This case was one of the most heartbreaking and emotionally challenging cases our special agents have worked on,” said Special Agent Michael Krol of HSI New England.

“Today’s telling sentence reflects the absolute cruelty and horror that Doyon inflicted on a child,” Krol said. “We hope that the conclusion of this case and the knowledge that he will spend many, many years in federal prison can bring some peace to all those he victimized.”
