Jermaine Dupri defends R. Kelly’s music legacy

Jermaine Dupri doesn’t want to hear about R. Kelly’s crimes and still says the jailed singer is one of the best R&B stars to ever do it.

“R. Kelly put the ‘R’ in R&B,” he said on Instagram Live. “We gotta stop playing. I get it. I understand. I’m not here to talk about that crap he’s involved in. He is the R in R&B, hands down.”

Kelly was sentenced in 2022 to 30 years in prison on nine counts for “sexual exploitation of children” and “transporting women and girls in interstate commerce to engage in illegal sexual activity,” as well as other charges.

The disgraced star was convicted in Chicago last year of three counts of child pornography and three counts of child enticement.

Earlier this year, the singer tried to have his sentence overturned, but in April a federal appeals court ruled that his sentence was proper and his possible release date is December 21, 2045, according to DOJ records.
