Surprise! It’s October!

Like anyone who remembers election antics from year to year, I’ve been waiting for the October surprise (or surprises, who knows?) that should be popping up about now.

It didn’t last long, it seems. About a minute into October, the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) called a strike at all ports where they have workers. All major ports on the East Coast and Gulf Coast are affected.

It is not news that a port strike in October would come at the expense of a sitting government and would be a boon for the political party challenging them. The fact that the Biden administration is the most pro-union administration in decades — and perhaps ever — makes the move to strike now more than a little suspect.

Cap that off with this newly circulated photo of ILA President Harold Daggett, 78, shaking hands with the first former president with 13 felony convictions (or any conviction, for that matter).
The photo was taken a while ago, but suddenly popped up all over the internet – and now here.

That, along with stories about two former trials in which the union president had ties to the mafia.

That, along with stories about Daggett owning a luxurious 7,100-square-foot mansion, a 75-foot yacht and driving a Bentley.

And his salaries. Don’t forget his salaries.

So what’s going on here? Why stab a knife in the back of a trade union party? The union endorsed Joe Biden in 2020, and the ILA PAC has contributed $115,000 to Democrats this year, out of a total of $120,000 to all parties.

There are more questions than answers at this point, but I bet there’s a great story just begging to be told.
