Alleged human trafficker arrested in Cape Town suburbs

A woman was arrested in Kraaifontein, Cape Town, after allegations arose that she was involved in human trafficking. Cape {city} etc reports.

The woman was arrested at her home on Tuesday following joint efforts by the Hawks, the City of Cape Town Police and the Department of Home Affairs.

Commenting on the arrest, Warrant Officer Zinzi Hani stated that the woman’s arrest was the result of a follow-up investigation that began earlier this year. This investigation revealed that the suspect trafficked a victim from Nigeria for sexual exploitation.

The woman was arrested at her home in Kraaifontein, where four possible victims were also discovered.

Hani stated that a preliminary investigation and interviews by social workers revealed that the four potential victims were not victims of human trafficking but were in South Africa illegally, reports News24.

The group of four was subsequently arrested and charged with violating the Aliens Act.

The alleged human trafficker will appear in Kuilsriver District Court today on charges of human trafficking and breach of immigration law.

The group of four will also appear before the Kuilsriver Magistrate Court, charged with breaching the Immigration Act.
