In the 1940s and 1970s, pinball was banned in some of the US’s largest cities due to claims that it was a mafia-run gambling scheme that corrupted the youth. It was not until 1976, when an expert proved in court that pinball was a game of skill and not a game of luck, that the ban was lifted in New York.
