Medellín’s curfews pale in comparison to the ongoing sexual exploitation of children and adolescents

On January 1, right-wing politician Federico Gutierrez returned to the Medellín mayor’s office with a powerful security speech. As in his popular previous term, between 2015 and 2019, he wanted to portray himself as the sheriff who would restore order in a city with increasing headlines about sexual exploitation, human trafficking and organized crime. One of his first measures was to impose a curfew on minors in areas with a high risk of infection.
