The bad October surprise: the dock workers’ strike

If you haven’t looked at this issue, you should. At midnight tonight, the Longshoremen’s Union could go on strike. This could cause widespread disruptions throughout the East Coast supply chain, and of course the Biden/Harris administration will be blamed, even though they have little control over the issue. There’s a good article about this in The Hill.
The strike is threatened by union leader Harold Daggett, who is alleged – I emphasize that so-called – has ties to the mafia and hates the Biden administration. There’s a good article about Daggett on Politico.

The irony of strongly pro-union Democrats getting screwed by a union cannot be understated. We can understand that longshoremen have legitimate issues to address, but their timing couldn’t have been worse — and if the union didn’t want to screw up the Biden administration, it probably could have easily agreed to something like a 60-day interim agreement . But this seems to be very intentional.

If there is any good news, it is that the worst consequences of the strike may not be realized until after the elections. Fingers crossed.
