Lawyer Capello weighs in on Inter and Milan mafia scandal: ‘Fines likely, no major consequences’

Serie A heavyweights Inter and Milan have come under intense scrutiny after Italian police put several prominent members of their biggest fan groups behind bars. However, well-known lawyer Pierfilippo Capello thinks that the club can get away with light punishments.

Inter and Milan have made themselves fully available to local authorities amid an ongoing investigation into their fans’ links with mafia crime syndicate ‘Ndrangheta. Despite their willingness to cooperate with law enforcement agencies, San Siro tenants may still have to pay some fines.

So says Capello.

From a sporting point of view, we reflect on the FIGC Public Prosecutor’s Office, which has requested the documents from the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office” he said, as reported by Calciomercato.

I don’t foresee big things for Inter and Milan, except possible fines. From a criminal point of view, the matter is different: it is necessary to understand whether there was someone who committed something that he should not have done.

We must not forget that in all clubs there is a subject with the task of dealing with the fans, and if he does it with organized groups and in certain ways it is a different matter:Capello concluded.

Italian police arrested 19 people on Monday on suspicion of trying to take over all the lucrative businesses in the San Siro area, including food, tickets, parking and souvenir sales. Some of the detained suspects are prominent members of Inter and Milan’s famous fan groups Curva Nord and Curva Sud.
