Punjab police crack down on international drug violence

Chandigarh: Punjab Police have busted an international drug trafficking syndicate that used jackets to smuggle heroin into the state.

With the arrest of the two constables, the officials have recovered three half-sleeved jackets containing 500 grams of heroin each from their possession, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav said here on Friday.

The arrested have been identified as Sukhdeep Singh alias Raja, a resident of Bhana in Faridkot, and Krishan, a resident of Ajaib in Rohtak. Besides recovering 1.5 kg of heroin, the teams also seized their white-colored Hyundai Aura car, in which they smuggled narcotics and used it as a taxi.

Yadav said preliminary investigations have revealed that these drug shipments were purchased from an Afghan from Delhi, exposing their network with international drug cartels and their clever tactics of hiding heroin in jackets to evade detection. During the initial interrogation, they disclosed that they had smuggled four consignments of heroin in the last two months in collaboration with the notorious drug smuggler from Kotkapura identified as Lakhwinder Singh and that the recent 10 kg of heroin was purchased and delivered in mid-September. in Moga.

Facing at least ten cases under the NDPS Act, Lakhwinder is said to be the key figure behind this module, which controls the entire drug network. The DGP said that the police teams were on a

manhunt to catch him.

Further research is underway to determine backward and forward links in this case.
