Are we all criminals now?

How willing will any of us be to resist government tyranny when the guns are right on our doorstep?

If Western countries were to replace their respective fiat currencies with digital versions (as many individual freedom advocates fear they will soon do), would organized crime disappear?

If the answer is ‘No’, why not? Don’t human traffickers and international drug cartels depend on a supply of paper money that they can move back and forth across borders and launder through unrelated companies for future use? If there were no money, apart from the digital ones and zeros created and controlled by national governments, major criminal organizations would certainly have no way to operate and nowhere to hide.

How can prostitution and drug sales survive within a system that tracks all digital transactions in real time? How can black market illicit trade or between sanctioned countries continue if Western central banks actively monitor every digital dollar that changes hands? Imposing government-mandated digital currencies would surely usher in a more peaceful planet that is relatively crime-free… right?

If you’re still not convinced, let me offer a suggestion that might trip you up: your instincts tell you that criminals will find a way to evade future digital surveillance. Somehow, human ingenuity will manage to create effective solutions to the government-mandated central bank digital currency. The sale of illegal narcotics, weapons and other prohibited materials will continue around the world as people eventually adapt and overcome whatever obstacles stand in their way. Crime will continue to exist because criminals will continue to exist, and criminals will continue to exist because in every generation some fraction of the human race behaves immorally, ignores social mores, or outright refuses to obey.

The left doesn’t seem to care about controlling criminals. They seem interested in checking out honest people.

Every act of compliance carries two costs: we lose the freedom we freely transfer, and we invite further erosion of our freedom in the future.

There is no way to rule innocent men. The only power a government has is the power to deal with criminals. Well, if there aren’t enough criminals, they make them. So many things are declared a crime that it becomes impossible for people to live without breaking the laws. Who wants a nation with law-abiding citizens? What kind of person is in that? But just adopt the kind of laws that cannot be observed, enforced, or interpreted objectively – and you create a nation of lawbreakers – and then you cash in on guilt.

The government is part of the crime/corruption problem.

The government IS organized crime. Organized crime’s job is to take advantage of the losers who work for a living.

The reason the government wants a government-controlled digital currency system is to know how much money you have and to be able to take it from you whenever it wants. It is NOT to stop crime! That’s what they’ll tell you, but it’s a lie.
