Prime Minister will participate in the ASEAN Summit and the 25th meeting of the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group

OTTAWA, OP, October 6, 2024 /CNW/ – The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeauannounced today that he will participate in the ASEAN Summit in Vientiane, Laosand the 25th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group at the US Air Base in Ramstein, Germany.

For almost half a century Canada and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have been partners in promoting peace, prosperity and progress. As we create good-paying jobs, fight climate change and grow our economies, Canada and ASEAN are united to make people’s lives better in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.

On the Top, of October 10 to 11, 2024Prime Minister Trudeau will emphasize Canada and ASEAN’s long-standing commitment to building a fairer, more prosperous future for people on both sides of the Pacific. As work continues toward a Canada-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement, the Prime Minister will note progress on last year’s ASEAN-Canada Strategic Partnership and underscore the importance of long-term sustainable growth that works for everyone, women and empowers girls and is anchored in the transition to clean energy.

ASEAN is one of the fastest growing economic regions in the world. That’s why Canada increases trade and investment with ASEAN and puts Canadians at the forefront of this enormous opportunity. As a group, the ASEAN member states were represented Canadas the fourth largest trading partner of goods in 2023, with increasing progress in agriculture, agri-food and digital trade between our peoples. More trade and investment mean more jobs, more innovation and more growth.
