Framers trained in post-harvest skills in Wokha

Dimapur, October 6: The Office of the Assistant Registrar, Co-Operative Societies, (ARCS) Wokha, conducted training on post-harvest skills under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) 2023-2024 on October 4 at Okotso Village, Wokha.
In his keynote address, ARCS Wokha, Obendangba noted that the RKVY programme, which was launched under the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, provides training and capacity building programs to farmers to provide opportunities to come together through cooperative associations. He stated that it aims to promote self-reliance and economic empowerment through public participation in the activities of agriculture and allied sectors, and also empower the youth through skill development.
Speaking on “Management of the Cooperative Society”, SRCS Wokha, T. Alanthung Ngullie emphasized on democratic principles, where each member has the right to vote to elect a management committee that will make the decision to effectively manage their organization, and to ensure to ensure that the financial interests and benefits of its members are protected through the maintenance of good accounts.
Chief Technical Officer, (Extension) KVK Wokha, Dr. BL. Mhalo Tungoe, who spoke on “Management of Pests and Diseases” emphasized that pests and diseases are part of the natural environmental system and in this regard, exercising natural control over them is important by continuing to prioritize human safety, security of the environment and the maintenance of healthy soil. by avoiding the use of man-made chemicals without proper information. Maintaining the balance between pests and predators also helps keep pests and diseases at acceptable levels, she added, emphasizing the aspects of a healthy crop.
In the programme, Agriculture Assistant P. Yanrenthung Patton spoke on “Post-harvest management” and Chumlanthung Ngullie, Banking Assistant, NSCB, Wokha, on “Financial Literacy”.
