World Cerebral Palsy Day – Nagaland TribuneNagaland Tribune

World Cerebral Palsy Day is celebrated annually on October 6, 2024 to bring together people with cerebral palsy, their families, supporters and organizations from more than 100 countries. This year the movement is being celebrated under the theme #UniquelyCP.

Cerebral palsy is a physical disability that affects movement and posture. Many people with cerebral palsy have other related needs for vision, hearing, communication and mobility. Its impact can range from a weakness in one hand to an almost complete lack of voluntary movement. It is a complex disability where;

1) 1 in 4 children with cerebral palsy cannot speak

2) 1 in 4 cannot walk

3) 1 in 2 has an intellectual disability

4) 1 in 4 has epilepsy.

The movement was founded in 2012 with the aim of creating an environment where people with cerebral palsy have equal rights and access to equal opportunities, without any form of discrimination. Last year the global movement reached more than 10 million people.
