International forces creating demand for drugs in Tamil Nadu: Governor RN Ravi

TIRUNELVELI: Governor RN Ravi expressed concern over increased drug use among youth in Tamil Nadu and said international forces have been working to create demand for drugs in the state, with cartels operating from Tamil Nadu, Pakistan and Dubai. The Governor was addressing the drug-free Tamil Nadu campaign organized by the Voice of Tenkasi Foundation in Sankarankovil on Sunday.

Ravi termed synthetic and chemical drugs as the biggest threat facing Tamil Nadu which significantly affects high school and college students. “While we have been focusing on eradicating ganja from the state, I am now more concerned about the seizure of hundreds of kilos of drugs.” of synthetic and chemical drugs from different parts of our state. While central agencies have intercepted large quantities of synthetic drugs through land, sea and airports, government agencies have reported only ganja seizures in the last three years, which is worrying.”

He further warned about international forces working to create demand for drugs in Tamil Nadu. “Initially, we were told that Tamil Nadu was just a transit point for drugs smuggled to Sri Lanka and beyond. But that is not the case now. Our state has become a drug consuming society,” Ravi said.

“In Punjab, drug abuse has devastated the youth population, and many youth are no longer fit to join the armed forces. We cannot allow the same to happen in Tamil Nadu,” he added.
