Figliola vs. the City of Harrisonburg School Board

Three Virginia teachers have sued the Harrisonburg City School Board, claiming a policy requiring them to use specific pronouns violates their religious beliefs.

The teachers, represented by Alliance Defending Freedom, argue that the board’s mandate infringes on their rights under Virginia’s Free Speech Clause and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

The lawsuit was filed in June 2022 and the teachers are seeking to enforce their constitutional rights while performing their duties.
