The trial of a St. John’s Fire Department captain accused of sexual assault has been postponed again.

Fifty-two-year-old Ron Pomeroy was charged late last year with sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a teenage girl.

The facts are said to have taken place between February and May 2023.

The three-day trial was scheduled to begin last June, but the Crown was given more time to review additional evidence provided by police.

The trial was moved to February next year, but now that too has fallen by the wayside.

That’s because Pomeroy’s lawyer has declared a personal conflict with his client.

Pomeroy has since hired a new lawyer who has been given time to familiarize himself with the case, with tentative trial dates now set for the end of April next year.

This will be preceded in January by a request from the defense, requesting access to the complainant’s private and confidential files.

The girl’s father was in court this morning and expressed frustration over another delay in the case.

Pomeroy was a captain with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department when the charges were filed last December, but his current employment status remains unclear.

He remains free on conditions while the case works its way to the new trial dates.
