Former custodian at Olathe Schools placed on probation after child sex crimes

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – On Monday, a former Olathe Public Schools custodian was placed on probation in Johnson County District Court after pleading guilty in July to one count of sexual exploitation of a child

John Houghton, 53, was given three years of probation. He worked for Mission Trail Middle School as custodian from April 2022.

The district attorney’s office said he was given probation, adding that prosecutors argued he served his prison sentence.

Mission police arrested Houghton in late January. Olathe Public Schools told FOX4 the arrest did not take place on campus. When the school district learned of his arrest, he was fired and prohibited from returning to school grounds.
