The agreement, which was signed by both countries’ ambassadors to the Organization of American States (OAS), solidifies El Salvador’s participation in the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM), a UN-backed initiative led by Kenya, involving 400 officers are being deployed to help restore peace in the violence-ridden Caribbean country.

In a message on dismantling criminal activities. organizations. Thomas also shared footage of the signing ceremony, where El Salvador’s ambassador to the OAS, Wendy Jeannette Acevedo Castillo, officially ratified the agreement.

President Nayib Bukele had initially offered aid to Haiti in March amid an escalating security crisis fueled by gangs and armed groups that has led to more than 3,600 deaths this year. Bukele expressed confidence in El Salvador’s ability to assist Haiti, but noted that this would require a United Nations Security Council resolution and the consent of the host country to fully implement it.

With the inclusion of El Salvador, several other Caribbean countries, including Antigua and Barbuda, Suriname, the Bahamas, Belize and Jamaica, are also preparing to contribute troops to the MSSM, whose mandate runs until October 2025.
