The FBI reports that “an alarming number of suicides have been identified among male victims of financially motivated extortion schemes.”

In fact, from October 2021 to March 2023, the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations received more than 13,000 reports of online financial extortion of minors, involving at least 12,600 victims – mostly boys – and leading to at least 20 suicides. (FBI, 2024)
