He said drug money worth Rs 3.95 lakh was also seized during the intelligence-based operation.

Technical leads were developed in a professional investigation and a first information report (FIR) was registered under the NDPS Act, he said, adding that investigation was on to establish various links.

Earlier this month, Punjab police busted an international drug trafficking syndicate using jackets to smuggle heroin into the state, arresting two officers and recovering three half-sleeved jackets with 500 grams of heroin each from their possession. The arrested were identified as Sukhdeep Singh alias Raja, a resident of Faridkot, and Krishan, a resident of Rohtak. Besides seizing 1.5 kg of heroin, police teams also seized their white-colored Hyundai Aura car, which they used to smuggle narcotics in the guise of a taxi.

Preliminary investigations revealed that these drug shipments were purchased from an Afghan based in Delhi, exposing their network with international drug cartels and their clever tactics of hiding heroin in jackets to evade detection.

During initial interrogation, the suspects revealed that they had smuggled four consignments of heroin in the last two months in collaboration with Kotkapura-based drug smuggler Lakhwinder Singh, and that the recent 10kg of heroin was purchased in mid-September, which was delivered in Moga.

Facing at least ten cases under the NDPS Act, Lakhwinder Singh is said to be the key person in this module, who controls the entire drug network.

Punjab shares the 553 km long, diverse, rugged and challenging border with Pakistan. Braving countless challenges, including adverse weather conditions and the surge in smuggling, the men of the Border Security Force (BSF) guard the borders 24 hours a day with unwavering dedication.
