97 percent of illegal migrants who come to Britain in small boats have stayed in Britain

More than 97 percent of migrants crossing the English Channel in small boats have stayed in Britain over the past six and a half years, according to Home Office statistics.

A joint investigation with GB News and Facts4EU analyzed the latest Home Office data files and found that only 2.96 percent of illegal migrants crossing from France since 2018 have been deported.

The latest Home Office data from the ‘Immigration system Statistics year ending June 2024’ report shows that of the 127,834 migrants arriving on British soil, only 3,788 left voluntarily or were forced to return.

In the case of Albania, 14,589 Albanians have used small boats to enter Britain since 2018. By 2024, only 2 percent of Albanian illegal migrants will have been granted some form of residence permit, thanks to the return deal negotiated by Rishi Sunak’s government. last year.

The Ministry of Interior databases do not show how many small boats have been returned over time, but we do know the total numbers of Albanian returnees, whether they entered by small boats or by other means.

Interior Ministry data shows that 39 percent of all illegal migrant returnees (via all modes of entry) in the 12 months to June 2024 were Albanians.

The Interior Ministry said: “The increase in the number of forced returnees over the past year was largely driven by the return of Albanian nationals, which increased from 1,509 in the year ending June 2023 to 2,822 in the year ending June 2024 (accounting for 39 percent of returns in the year ending June 2023). that period). This follows the signing of the agreement in December 2022 between the British and Albanian governments to deter and disrupt illegal migration and criminal networks.”

LAST OF MEMBERSHIP:

Excluding Albanians from the total of all boat migrants would significantly reduce the percentage of deported boat migrants, from the already low level of 2.98 percent.

It comes after a record number of 973 migrants arrived in 17 boats this weekend, marking the highest daily total so far this year.

According to the Ministry of Interior, this brought the total number for the year to 26,612 people in 503 boats.

The crossing took place on the same day French authorities said four people, including a two-year-old boy, died as they crossed the English Channel in an attempt to reach Britain.

The total number of arrivals so far in 2024 is now higher than at the same point last year, when 25,330 migrants had reached the UK.

But it is still lower than at the same point in 2022 when 33,586 people had crossed.

A Home Office spokesperson said: “This data relates to crossings and returns under the previous government.

“The new government has begun to deliver a major boost to immigration enforcement and is returning activities to remove people who have no right to stay in Britain and ensure the rules are enforced.

“Through our new Border Security Command, we will stop these journeys at the source by strengthening our global partnerships and increasing our efforts to investigate, arrest and prosecute the vicious human smuggling rings.”
