WORKING SUMMARY

The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Coordinator will oversee all MHPSS programming for the country’s response, manage the MHPSS team, and oversee IMC’s collaboration with local partners for the implementation of various MHPSS projects.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate MHPSS programming for the country, including strategy development and monitoring of multiple projects.
  • Provide leadership to the MHPSS team, including MHPSS field managers, psychiatrists, and national MHPSS staff; supporting team building, performance reviews and staff professional development
  • Work closely with local NGO partner(s) and relevant government contact points for the implementation and monitoring of MHPSS projects
  • Provide ongoing technical guidance and support for MHPSS-related training and supervision as required
  • Prepare and implement a Training of Trainers (ToT) program on PFA and other relevant topics and support national trainers in training rollout
  • Support the development of MHPSS referral pathways with partner NGO(s) and external service providers to strengthen links with available MHPSS and protection-related services
  • In collaboration with local partners, engage community leaders, community organizations and other service providers in supporting beneficiaries in accessing MHPSS services and ensuring their feedback for quality monitoring and accountability
  • Lead the development of MHPSS-related IEC materials
  • Oversee the monitoring and evaluation of MHPSS programming, and the development of M&E tools and collection and analysis of program data
  • Prepare MHPSS reporting on a regular basis, as a focal point for the MHPSS team
  • Work closely with support departments to support program management and logistical implementation of activities at program sites
  • Implement the project in accordance with IMC and global MHPSS standards and guidelines and coordinate closely with IMC’s Technical Unit Global Mental Health Advisor for the development and review of training materials and reports.
  • Regularly collaborate with teams from other sectors for an integrated approach to activities and training
  • Mainstream MHPSS within IMC in all sectors, and with partners and service providers
  • Participate in MHPSS coordination meetings for information sharing, collaboration with partners, referral mechanisms and advocacy for best practices and IASC MHPSS guidelines

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Usually a 4-year university degree in a related field. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted if necessary
  • The qualified candidate is a mental health professional (psychologist, clinical social worker, psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse) with experience in coordinating MHPSS programs
  • Typically more than 7 years of relevant and progressive experience in the field of mental health, including a minimum of 4 years of professional experience coordinating MHPSS projects in humanitarian settings
  • Knowledge of and experience in following IASC guidelines on MHPSS in emergencies and international best practices on integrating MHPSS into primary health care
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in the assessment, design and delivery of responses to pre-existing and emergency MHPSS needs
  • Training experience required; capacity and proven track record in training and capacity building of national staff and partners
  • Strong organizational and supervisory skills
  • Honest, hardworking and motivated
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within different cultural environments
  • Strong written and communication skills
  • Ability to work within a team structure or independently, flexible and able to cope with stressful workloads
  • An excellent command of English, spoken and written
