Sentenced against Holly, a man who documented his years of sexual abuse of children, including babies

A Holly man will likely spend the rest of his life in federal prison for sexually abusing three children — including an infant — and capturing it on film and his cell phone.

Jeremy McCallum, 48, was sentenced in federal court Tuesday to 85 years in prison for his June 18 guilty plea to 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a child and one count of possession of child pornography. His plea followed years of litigation, according to the US Attorney’s Office-Easter District of Michigan.

In addition to the 85-year prison sentence — imposed by U.S. District Judge Kay Behm — McCallum was sentenced to 15 years of supervised release if he ever gets out of prison.

The case came to light in January 2020 when law enforcement authorities recovered paper copies of digital files containing sexual abuse material during a search of McCallum’s home, court records show. The files depict years of McCallum’s “horrific sexual abuse of three minor children,” including a minor female who was abused for nearly a decade, which he documented on VHS tape, his cell phone and on Polaroid photos, the DOJ said in a news release .

McCallum’s abuse of a female child was recorded on VHS tape and McCallum’s cellphone, and his abuse of a male child was recorded on VHS tape, the DOJ said.

“This suspect committed monstrous crimes. This prosecution and conviction should send a strong message to child predators: you will face serious consequences if you harm our children,” U.S. Attorney Dawn Ison said in the news release.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Cheyvoryea Gibson added: “The despicable acts of sexual exploitation, especially against children, are among the most heinous crimes investigated by our agency. Jeremy McCallum’s conviction is a direct result of the collaboration between the Michigan State Police and the FBI, Oakland County Resident Agency. This conviction is a clear and stern warning to those who think they can attack our most vulnerable population and avoid justice. The successful prosecution by the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Eastern Michigan is a critical step in the healing process for those who were victims of Mr. McCallum’s deplorable and heinous actions.”

This case was investigated by the FBI and Michigan State Police, and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Christopher Rawsthorne and Tara Hindelang.
