Iraq denounces Israel for threats against Sayyed Sistani

Baghdad- Iraq has condemned Israel for threatening Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali al-Sistani. Israeli Channel 14 An image recently leaked revealing what she described as “Israel’s target list” of prominent regional leaders.

Among those on the list was Iraq’s highest religious authority, Sayyed al-Sistani, who was identified as a legitimate target. The leak has raised serious concerns, further highlighting escalating tensions in the region and Israel’s potential targeting of influential figures.

The Iraqi president’s office has condemned Israeli media for attacking Iraq’s highest religious authority.

The Iraqi head of the Islamic Scholars Association, Sheikh Khaled Al-Mulla, has condemned Israel’s threats against prominent religious figures, including Najaf-based Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali al-Sistani, stating that these actions confirm that Israel is waging a religious struggle . war against Muslims.

Pan-Arab news channel Al Mayadeenreported Sheikh Al-Mulla, who emphasized that Israel is trying to frame the ongoing war as being against a specific sect, but he believes this attempt will ultimately fail.
He criticized Israeli threats against Sayyed al-Sistani, claiming that they aim to expand the scope of the war to divert attention from the losses and crimes in Gaza and Lebanon.

Sheikh also pointed out that the Israeli government is courting criminal gangs such as ISIS, which Sayyed al-Sistani has previously called on to fight.

Sheikh Al-Mulla referred to an earlier warning from Sayyed Khamenei regarding Israel’s attempts to foment discord among Muslims, stating that the scholars have considerable wisdom to counter these threats.
Commenting on this issue, the Iraqi government stated that both the government and the people of Iraq have made every effort to prevent the escalation of the war, but the Israeli entity and its government have only aggravated the situation.

It called on the United Nations to reject all actions that offend the sentiments of Muslims and target influential global figures who deserve respect.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi Presidency reiterated its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the people’s right to self-determination. It stressed that Iraq is intensifying its efforts to halt aggression against both Palestine and Lebanon.

Sayyed Ali al-Sistani, Iraq’s highest religious authority, has played a crucial leadership role during some of the country’s most critical moments. His influence is evident from his firm stances during the American occupation, the rise of ISIS and his control over large parts of Iraq. Sayyed Al-Sistani has consistently supported the Palestinian and Lebanese resistance while advocating for the rights and well-being of the region’s people, cementing his position as a key figure in shaping both Iraq’s domestic and regional policies .

Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali al-Sistani recently issued a directive calling on Iraqis to provide shelter to forcibly displaced Lebanese amid continued brutal Israeli aggression. Iraqis have responded quickly, following his lead, opening their homes and resources to thousands of Lebanese refugees who are now being hosted for free across Iraq.
