Former MARC employee arrested on charges of sexual abuse

Patrick Baker, 25, worked part-time as a lifeguard at the recreation center and is being held on charges of sexual exploitation of a minor and attempted sodomy

PARK CITY, Utah – On Wednesday, the Park City Municipal Corporation announced that they had learned through press reports that Patrick Baker, 25, a seasonal lifeguard and swim instructor at PC MARC in the summer of 2024, had been arrested in Salt Lake County on multiple charges related to sexual abuse of children.

“Since learning of his arrest, the city has terminated his employment and worked to notify parents who had enrolled a child in programs involving Baker,” a city statement said. “Park City has not received any information that any criminal activity has occurred in connection with his employment with the city. Baker’s arrest was based on alleged conduct that occurred outside of Summit County.

Baker, who was also employed by the Murray Boys and Girls Club as its teen program director, was arrested on multiple charges related to child sexual abuse and was taken into custody on September 30, 2024.

He faces one charge: sexual exploitation of a minor, enticement of a minor and sodomy of a child.

Baker used the Internet and text messages to contact someone he believed was a five-year-old boy, according to a police statement. In the messages, Baker suggested having sexual intercourse with the minor after meeting the child.

When Baker arrived at the designated location to meet the boy, he saw law enforcement officers waiting for him and attempted to run away. He was picked up by officers and arrested.

Clayton Scrivner, Park City communications manager, said Baker was last working at the MARC on Sunday, September 29, during a part-time lifeguard shift.

Parents of children who had contact with Baker at MARC have been notified and so far no new allegations have been made against Baker, Scrivner said.

Baker was screened through a background check, per city policy, before being hired to work at the MARC.

Baker is being held in the Salt Lake County Jail without bail.

Anyone who believes their child may have been abused can contact Summit County Police at (435) 615-3601.
