LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Monday disposed of 3,400 liters of manufactured milk and filed an FIR against the milk adulteration mafia after eradicating the machines.

The raiding team seized two tankers, 48 kg of ghee, 45 kg of powder, barrels, chillers, pumps, mixers and a weighing machine during the major operation in Arzanipur village and adjoining areas.

PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid said the authority was taking action against the milk adulteration mafia for producing manufactured milk with hazardous chemicals and detergents. He said the team had discarded 85 milk heaps after proven contamination with contaminated water, vegetable ghee and whey powder.

He said harmful ingredients were used to increase the thickness of the milk and maintain the fat content. He said the use of spoiled milk poses a threat to the health of users and causes gastrointestinal diseases. He added that milk quality checks are being carried out on a daily basis to ensure safe milk supply to every household in Punjab by placing screening pickets.

PFA enforcement teams also witnessed cobwebs on walls, layers of mold in the production area, abundance of insects and poor hygiene facilities, PFA DG said.

He directed food business operators (FBOs) to ensure compliance with the rules of the PFA Act. He said the authority will reduce the land size of Punjab for the forgery mafia by eradicating their ‘dens’ and illegal businesses.

He has requested the public to support the PFA in eliminating the counterfeiting mafia and in case of any complaints, report to the PFA on 1223 helpline number.
