The WNY Red Cross is holding a “volunteer camp” because there is an urgent need for shelter workers

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Many Western New Yorkers have friends and loved ones who live in areas recently hit by Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helene.

Some ways Western New Yorkers can help the Red Cross response in these areas to help those affected by these disasters include:

  • Make a financial donation
    • This is the fastest and easiest way to help.

  • Make an appointment to donate blood or platelets
    • As a result of these hurricanes and storms, blood drives in the Southeast have been canceled and blood donations are not being collected. They hope that people living outside the affected areas will make an appointment to donate blood or platelets.

The WNY Red Cross said there is an urgent need for volunteer shelter workers.

To help find more volunteers at the Red Cross, the Red Cross of Western New York is hosting a volunteer boot camp this Saturday for those interested in responding to disaster response efforts this fall.

The volunteer boot camp will provide all necessary training, conduct necessary background checks and prepare all materials for these participants to deploy this fall.
