Sumner County caregiver charged with sexual abuse and neglect of vulnerable adults

A Sumner County caregiver finds himself on the other side of the law after being accused of sexual assault and neglect of a vulnerable adult. WSMV reports that Boris Whitworth, who was working as a caregiver at the time of the alleged incident, faces two counts of aggravated rape, one count of neglect of a vulnerable adult and sexual exploitation of a vulnerable adult. This case came to light in June 2024 when the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) began investigating the allegations.

Based on the investigation, the TBI discovered that the victim, a 35-year-old with vulnerability in his circumstances, was admitted to Sumner Regional Medical Center, which revealed injuries related to assault. The victim was later transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for further medical attention. But according to the TBI, no additional details about this case have been released to the public.

Whitworth, 69, was sentenced to death on September 4 and was booked into the Sumner County Jail on a $300,000 bond. The information about his bond was released publicly by the WKRN news station, which reported on the incident after releasing these details.

While details surrounding the event remain scarce, the TBI has confirmed via their Facebook page that an investigation into the cases involving Whitworth’s alleged abuse and neglect has indeed taken place.
