Flat City man gets jail time for child abuse

SENTENCED TO 19 YEARS BEHIND THE BARS

A Platte City man was sentenced Oct. 4 to 19 years in prison for making and possessing child pornography and molesting a child.
Timothy D. Lowery was sentenced after pleading guilty to sexual exploitation of a minor, two counts of possession of child pornography and child molestation in the third degree.

Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd said, “This child predator was brought to justice because a brave child had the courage to tell a teacher what was going on. I hope that any other child or adult who has been a victim of abuse will find the strength to report what happened to them.”

After this revelation at school, the child completed a forensic interview at Synergy Services. During that interview, the child became more explicit about being abused and revealed that the suspect had taken nude photos.

Based on that information, authorities obtained a search warrant and images of the minor victim were found on the suspect’s phone.
Zahnd said: “This defendant sexually abused a child and collected images of that abuse. Images of child sexual abuse are not just pictures. On the contrary, each photo documents horrific sexual abuse, and we will do everything we can to ensure that those who take or share these images spend significant time in prison.”

This case was investigated by the Excelsior Springs Police Department and the Platte County Sheriff’s Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle Rioux.
