PUTRAJAYA: Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has denied that authorities broke the law when they rescued children from charities linked by police to Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH).

Saifuddin said police were guided by 11 laws in rescuing the victims and focused on possible crimes against women and children.

“All actions taken were carried out in accordance with the law,” he said today during an editors’ meeting at the Ministry of the Interior.

He also asked the parents of the children involved to be patient and give the police space to conduct their investigation.

Saifuddin said the police have been transparent in their investigation and regular press conferences are being held for updates.

It was reported on Tuesday that a group of lawyers are considering legal action against the government over alleged abuse of the law in the case of children rescued from the charity homes.

The lawyers expressed concern over reports that children were separated from their parents during investigations into the activities of GISBH’s company and alleged crimes, including child exploitation and sexual abuse.
