Sokoto: Bandits Take Over LGA, Appoint Traditional Rulers, Settle Disputes – Council Chairman

The Chairman of Isa Local Government Area of ​​Sokoto State, Sharifu Kamarawa, says bandits control large parts of the local government, appoint traditional rulers and settle disputes between communities.

The chairman made this known to the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, who visited the area on Thursday to review the performance of the troops.

According to Karamawa, “bandits have taken over parts of my local government area and are acting as traditional rulers and judges.

“They have become their own authority. They even mediate and settle disputes in communities.”

He explained that it is very painful and said they have no control or authority over their people in that axis including his village Kamarawa.

The Chairman further explained that Bello Turji, Dan Bokolo, Garso and many bandits move freely and exercise their power over their people without any challenge.

According to him, part of his council area had become a safe haven for bandits and other criminal gangs and he pleaded with the minister to come to their aid.

He stated that the bandits collect levies from and the communities at will.

He named parts of the affected communities controlled by the bandits in Sokoto, including: Gebe, Kamarawa Arume, Bafarawa and many other villages along the border with Niger Republic.

He added that only one village called Gundumi is still standing, and lamented that all other villages along the 120-kilometer road had been abandoned due to the activities of bandits.
