American Solar Challenge visits SIU Edwardsville

Drivers, builders and spectators gathered outside SIUE’s engineering school on the evening of July 21 during one stop along the seven-state American Solar Challenge.

Teams from colleges across the country will begin their journey on July 20 in Nashville, Tennessee and conclude on July 27 in Casper, Wyoming.

Although the SIUE solar car team did not participate in the rally this year, it hosted the visiting teams for an overnight stay and displayed their creations from previous years.

The public was invited to meet the teams and take pictures with their cars at a festival on Sunday night, complete with food trucks and a DJ. Early Saturday morning, the teams left for their next checkpoint, the Missouri state capital in Jefferson City.
