(edit) Tracking Terror: The 9/11 Subway Conspiracy

The NSA and FBI team up to foil an al-Qaeda terrorist plot to blow up the New York City subway on the anniversary of 9/11.
To mark the 10th anniversary of 9/11, Al Qaeda planned a memorial attack on the United States. An Afghan American named Najibullah Zazi was trained in Pakistan to make bombs for use in the New York City subway. But Zazi and two other Americans were arrested by the FBI on the eve of the attack, and Zazi later confessed.

(edit) Buried secrets, unbreakable codes

The FBI teams up with the NRO to stop a potential spy from selling classified secrets to an enemy nation. They soon discover that the spy has buried classified secrets all over the East Coast, and the only way to retrieve the stolen documents is to decipher a series of intricate codes.
Before Edward Snowden’s infamous data leak, the largest theft of government secrets was committed by a man whose elaborate espionage scheme and coded messages were made even more complex by his dyslexia. His name was Brian Regan, and he would become known as “the spy who couldn’t spell.” An informant turned over a series of coded letters to the FBI, which sent Special Agent Steven Carr on a hunt to identify the sender, and authorities eventually tracked Regan down and arrested him on September 11, 2001.

(edit) The Merchant of Death: Viktor Bout

With the help of an undercover source, the DEA’s Special Operations Division launches an international manhunt to arrest one of the world’s most prolific Russian arms dealers, Viktor Bout.
His global network has changed the way modern war is waged. Bout’s vast enterprise of weapons, aircraft and money has fueled bloody massacres in Africa and aided both militant Islamic fanatics in Afghanistan and the US military in Iraq. The end came only in 2008, after a sprawling undercover operation by the US Drug Enforcement Administration saw Bout trailed through multiple countries to a luxury hotel in Bangkok, where he was caught on camera agreeing to sell undercover US agents.

(edit) The Terrorists Next Door: Operation Smokescreen

After the FBI uncovers a Hezbollah terrorist cell in the suburbs of Charlotte, investigators attempt to unravel the web of criminal activity to prosecute the first material support for terrorism case in the United States.
Hezbollah engaged in covert militant, criminal, and terrorist activities, and over time its operatives became increasingly sophisticated in moving money and stolen or counterfeit goods around the world. Some of the most surprising of these money-making schemes took place in the United States, where a Hezbollah network operated out of Charlotte, North Carolina.

(edit) The Norte Valle Cartel

In this classic film that follows the money investigation, an elite team of unconventional investigators work together to take down one of the most violent and dangerous Colombian cartels of the 1990s, the Norte Valle Cartel.
Colombia had witnessed the bloody rise and fall of the Medellin Cartel and its powerful rival Cali Cartel. A third Colombian cartel emerged in the 1990s to seize the crown as the kings of cocaine. The Norte Valle Cartel was as ruthless and formidable as Escobar, made up of hitmen and assassins from the Cali organization.

(edit) The Spy Game: Russian Espionage

After a suspicious increase in Russian diplomats visiting the State Department, the FBI teams up with the Diplomatic Security Service to track mysterious radio frequencies. The agents soon find themselves dealing with a national emergency when they discover that the Russian government has successfully planted a wiretap in the building.
A highly sophisticated listening device was found in a conference room at the State Department where high-ranking officials were holding important meetings. After the discovery and taking precautions, FBI agents left the listening device behind so they could observe a spy at work. After the agents observed Russian embassy attaché Stanislav Borisovich Gusev, he was arrested and deported. But decades later, the mystery of who installed the listening device remains.

(edit) Hunting for war criminals

After a mass genocide took place during the Bosnian War, the US and NATO, along with the Joint Special Operations Command, are leading an international effort to track down one of the world’s most notorious war criminals.
Before 9/11, Bosnia was the most active deployment such special operations units could provide. The American-led intelligence operation, codenamed Amber Star, included special forces, intelligence and law enforcement officials from five countries. Its goal was the capture and extradition for trial of Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic, the wartime political and military leaders, both accused of war criminals.

(edit) Operation Firewall: The Takedown of Shadowcrew

In the early years of the Internet, the US Secret Service carries out a groundbreaking mission to take down one of the first criminal hacking groups: Shadowcrew.
Shadowcrew’s centralized marketplace for carding activities was the brainchild of Andrew Mantovani. The group operated websites that traded stolen cards online. In 2004, the Secret Service arrested more than 28 individuals as part of an undercover investigation. The suspects, spread across eight states and six foreign countries, were involved in a global cybercriminal network.
